| A big
book of stories from before the sabbatical,
bringing together just about all of Silverberg's best
short works of the late 60s and early 70s. It replaces Capricorn Games, The
Feast of St Dionysus,
and Unfamiliar
Territory. It has been
reissued as Volume 3 of the British Collected
Stories of Robert Silverberg series. When it came to choosing the best
stories of the 1970s, there was no need to make a new
book, as this one already did the job admirably. |

Lion Time in Timbucktoo: The
Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg Volume 6 (2000?)
Apparently this collection is slated for
publication in the UK in March 2000. I'm guessing it will contain
stories from the 90s, many of which have never appeared in book
form.

| In the Preface to the
second edition, Silverberg explains that when it came
time to reprint this collection, there were a few of the
stories in it which were at the time also in other
collections in print, so he took the liberty of replacing
them with others "of about the same length, vintage,
and quality," but not otherwise available. This is
slight mis-statement, since a number of the stories in
the second edition had not been written when the original
edition was published. Also note that the short story
called "Needle in a Timestack" does not appear in either
collection of the same name, and was in fact written much
later. |

imagine a more suitable introduction to Silverberg's fertile work
in short forms from this period. The UK edition has somewhat
different contents and is split into two volumes (Pluto in the Morning Light and The
Secret Sharer).
